If you’re a big fan of Tokidoki merchandise and especially the bags then you will know that there are plenty of fakes and imitations out there. So how on earth do you tell a fake from the real thing, and how much should you be willing to fork out for the genuine article?

Firstly, you don’t always need to look at the tiny details to spot a fake. Does the bag have any tags on it? Are they selling the product much cheaper than anywhere else? If there are no tags and it’s being sold at half the usual price then chances are it’s not real and they’re trying to shift the bag ASAP. All sellers of brand new Tokidoki bags should also be able to provide the catalogue style number which is also archived on the official website (for you to check!). Lack of this information is a dead giveaway.

Ok so everything so far looks normal but you want to be sure…If on closer inspection you notice that the zip is plastic then you’re onto a faker. ALL genuine Tokidoki bags have metal rainbow colored zips. They also have Tokidoki characters printed on the tongue of the zipper which is in the same color as the bags handles and edging.

Secondly, make sure that the Qee toy or Adios keychain is on and is wrapped in a clear plastic bag with black writing. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to buy a Tokidoki bag without a Qee or keychain, but some sellers manage to do this to buyers who don’t know any different.

If you’re reading this then chances are you’re a serious buyer, and fortunately Tokidoki themselves are also very serious about getting these faux bags off the market. Just last year (2007) the company began a Blog dedicated to keeping its customers informed of hot to spot a fake.
